Danish company IFAD TS A/S has delivered its IRAS Comm and IRAS Touch simulated radio communication and intercom systems to the Royal Danish Navy’s (RDN) Warfare School at Frederikshavn for use on its Action Speed Tactical Trainer (ASTT). The two new systems are part of a communications upgrade for the ASTT and replaces older technology.

IRAS Comm is a DIS based simulated radio communication and intercom system used for realistic voice communication in real-time training simulators. The system can be configured as stand-alone, integrated with other systems through DIS/HLA or embedded into existing simulators through the Remote Control API and is based on COTS and open standards. IRAS Touch is a networked communication device with touch display.

The communication system is prepared for WAN interoperability with external simulator sites using DIS/HLA.

The RDN Tactical Trainer provides for tactical team training. The trainer features 12 own ship CIC cubicles/models which can take part in 12 simulation exercises running in parallel. The ASTT is equipped with approximately 100 IRAS Comm communication stations including 60 IRAS Touch devices embedded into the existing training system. The communication system supports 60 radio nets (UHF/VHF/HF) plus intercom per concurrent simulation exercise. Each communication station can simultaneously listen to 14 radio nets and transmit on each radio simultaneously.
